Kirthi wrote an article about historical coverage of women and it was published as part of the World Pulse Story Awards program. She tells a childhood story of being assigned to write a paper about a male historical figure. The teacher only offered the names of two women but included thirty-seven men as possible topics to the entire class. When she told her teacher she preferred to write about a woman the teacher had no one else to suggest.
