Anna Jarvis was the founding mother of Mother’s Day. She created the holiday in honor of her mother.  She went on to hate the commercialization of the holiday and later died in an asylum.  Not an auspicious start to the tradition but Anna certainly had her heart in the right place.

Happy mother’s day to all the women who raised their children and for those who take on foster children or grandchildren.   Being a mom is an extraordinary job the one job you don’t actually get paid for!  Here’s hoping for happy Mother’s Day in 2010.

Blue Ridge Now has a story about women helping women.  32 women from the  Shuey Knolls community in Edneyville came out to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.
